地球の病気と言うのは、環境汚染などのことを示してるのではないかと思います。

結構長い文ですがおねがいします。省略があったら、それも補ってお願いします。
The issues now attracting international attention tell us
clearly, however, that environmental problems have by no　
means been solved. The pollution we recognize and experience
directly may have lessened, but the sphere of human activity
in general has greatly expanded, and experts are pointing to
signs of immense changes in the ecosystem. If nothing is done,
it is feared that continued reduction of the ozon layer,warming
of the earth, desertification, acid rain and so forth could,
in the long term, threaten the survival of the human race and
all other forms of life on the planet. These issues may not pose
an immediate threat to our daily lives, but their damage could be　
permanent if proper steps are not taken now. It is Japan's responsibility
as an industrialized nation to take the initiative in　tackling the
issues, instituting instituting measures that take a much longer
perspective than ever before conteplated.

和訳だけを掲載しても、なぜそのような和訳になるのかが理解できなければ、
勉強にならないですよね。ここは、「高校受験英語掲示板」なので、
あなたが高校受験生の場合、文法・構文・単語などについて、
どのような勉強までをして来られた人なのか、だいたいのことを
教えてください。分詞構文という項目は、勉強しましたか。

また、上の英文を和訳すると、「しかし」から始まるので、
その前に文章の流れがあったことになりますね。
その流れについては、どのようになっているのでしょうか。

すいません。高３です。確かにこの前に文章はありました。
けどちょうどこの部分が授業で当たっているのでそうしました。
具体的に分からないところだけいいます。
・４行目のbutのかかる範囲、つまり訳す順番
・６行目のIf nothing is doneの訳
・１０行目のthe planetは地球のことかどうか
・１２行目のItから最後までの訳し方、出来ればこの部分の全訳
　・特にItが何を指すか　
　・予想ではbeforeの後に省略があると思うがそれが何か

受身を能動態に変えてみましょう。


（If we do nothing　と同じ意味です）

そうです。この文章は地球環境問題のことについて書かれていますね。


> ・１２行目のItから最後までの訳し方、出来ればこの部分の全訳
> 　・特にItが何を指すか　

to take　以下を指しています（長すぎるために it で代用して先に出している）。

ここは打ち間違えていませんか？
than ever before they(=measures) are contemplated.
だと思います。

の間違いで、

than it was contemplated ever before.

と同じことだと思います。
